Historic centre

The historic centre is the heart of Malaga. From the harbour to the south it extends northwards to Plaza Merced, and is bordered by the Guadalmina River in the west, and the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro hill in the east.

To get a feel for its elegance and variety take a stroll from spacious Plaza Merced along winding Calle Granada to the central square, Plaza de la Constitución, and on down the broad paved main shopping street, Calle Larios, to the main entrance to the harbour (recently renovated as a shopping and leisure area, Muelle Uno).

The Atarazanas Market, with its fabulous stained glass window, is along the Alameda to your right. Turning left you can take a stroll through the quiet shade of Parque Málaga to the Alcazaba Palace.

Around the western foot of the Alcazaba hill are the Cathedral, the Roman Theatre, the Picasso Museum and the Aduana, the old Customs house, which is being renovated to house a new fine arts museum.
